Description

Instituted in 1868. A silver eight point star with large ball finials, with a superimposed obverse cross in 18K Gold and enamel with knots in each corner, the centerpiece features a blue enameled field with a Lombardy crown with red, green, and white enamel details, surrounded by a Gold ring, the reverse presenting a vertical pin with dual stays, measures 72.6 mm (h) x 73.5 mm (w), weighs 55.6 grams, enamels intact, in extremely fine condition.

Footnote: The Order of the Crown of Italy was founded by Victor Emmanuel II in 1868 to commemorate the unification of Italy in 1861. It was the first national Order instituted after the unification of the Kingdom of Italy. It was awarded in five degrees for civilian and military merit. The order has been suppressed by law since the foundation of the Republic in 1946.
