(Ordine della Corona d’Italia). Instituted February 20th, 1868. (c. 1900). Constructed of 18kt Gold, with blue, green, red, and white enamels, suspended from a fixed loop and swivel ring suspension from its period original neck ribbon, consisting of a white-enameled hollow constructed 18kt Gold cross with matching Gold knots in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a blue enameled centerpiece bearing a royal crown constructed of white, green, and red enamels, surrounded by a Gold ring, the reverse features a Gold central medallion bearing a black enameled eagle with a red and white enameled shield on its chest, surrounded by a matching Gold ring, unmarked, measuring 51.5 mm (w) x 55.8 mm (l), weighing 20.42 grams.
Accompanied by a presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden core, with a lightly textured faux leather exterior, the exterior of the lid decorated with a raised gilded crowned Royal Cypher of Victor Emmanuel, the interior of the lid lined with dark blue padded silk, with a functional exterior metal hinge, intact interior fabric hinge cover, and functional exterior metal clasp closure, marked “Stabilimento Johnson” in gilt, measuring 92 mm (w) x 150 mm (l).
A fine quality and extremely well preserved example of this award presented in its case of issue, with only minimal contact marks on the enamels, in overall near extremely fine condition.
