Description
A hand-painted enameled porcelain plate to commemorate the liberation of the city of Maastricht by the American Army on September 14th, 1944 (the first dutch city to be liberated from German occupation), depicting an American soldier superimposed on the plate with the city of Maastricht as well as an American and Dutch flag in the background. The reverse has a porcelain lip with two holes at the top to allow for wall hanging, inscribed “Maastricht - the first liberated city of Holland” and maker marked “petrus Regout a Co., Maastricht”, measuring 208 mm in diameter, with very light “spider-web” cracking to the enamels of the plate from age, in near extremely fine condition.
