(Den Kongelige Norske Sankt Olavs Orden). Civil Division. Type I. 1873-1905 Issue. Instituted in 1030 by King Oscar I of Norway and Sweden. Of fine quality manufacture, consisting of an enameled white Maltese Cross in Gold with ball finials, featuring stylized crowned monographs “O” (for Oscar I) in each quadrant also in Gold, obverse centre exhibiting a superposed heraldic Norway Lion on a red enameled background, reverse depicting the inscription RET OG SANDHED (Justice and Truth), surmounted by a Gold Norway Royal Crown with enameled details, featuring a Norway Lion on the top of the Crown, loop suspension marked J.T. denoting J. TOSTRUP, OSLO as well as 750 denoting Gold purity, measuring 58 mm (w) x 82 mm (h - inclusive of heraldic Lion), weighting 29.8 grams, on original neck ribbon with tassels, extremely fine. 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
