Romania, Kingdom. A National Renaissance Front Membership Badge

 Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a golden-yellow disc trimmed by a red enameled border, bearing a central blue Romanian Cross defaced by a national coat of arms, the reverse with a vertical pinback and partially-obscured Bucharest maker’s mark, measuring 22 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.

Footnote: Established on 16 December 1938 by King Carol II, the National Renaissance Front represented the final attempt of the Romanian establishment to counter the rising popularity of the Iron Guard. Espousing authoritarian and corporatist principles, the short-lived movement ultimately failed in its agenda, when a combination of Axis and Soviet pressure forced Romania to cede large amounts of territory to both Hungary and the Soviet union catalyzed mass protests which led to the downfall of the government. The party was dissolved on 6 September 1940.
