Russia, Imperial. A China Campaign Medal, 1900-1901, Silver Grade

In darkly toned silver, measuring 28 mm, original ribbon, light contact, extremely fine. Footnote: The medal was instituted on May 6, 1901 during the reign of Tsar Nicholas II and was created to commemorate the 1900-1901campaign that took Russian forces into China. The silver medal was awarded to all ranks of military personnel or to civilians, who had taken active part in the campaign. The bronze medal was presented to those who had not taken active part in conflict, but were stationed in China or Manchuria during the campaign against the Boxer Rebels.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
