Constructed of copper, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward-facing profile of Tsar Nicholas I, circumscribed by name and title in Latin, the reverse bearing a raised depiction of the Tsar in classical armour, receiving a sword from a female personification of faith, circumscribed by an inscription of “ACCINGE FEMORI GLADIUM TUUM-HEROS. PS. 45. 4.” (“GIRD THY WAIST, OH MIGHTY ONE, WITH THY SWORD” (“GIRD THY SWORD UPON THY THIGH, OH MIGHTY ONE (PSALM 45:3)”, and situated above an inscription of “BELL. TURC. INDICT. / D: XIV APRIL / MDCCCXXVIII” (“WAR DECLARED ON TURKEY, 14 APRIL 1828”), the obverse designer and engraver marked for Gottfried Bernhard Loos and Heinrich Gube, measuring 38.54 mm in diameter, weighing 32.7 grams, in extremely fine condition.
