Description

Constructed of a silvered zink alloy, the obverse bearing raised and mirrored profiles of Grand Duke Paul Petrovich (later Tsar Paul I) and Princess Wilhelmina of Hesse-Darmstadt (later Tsarevna Natalia Alexeievna), circumscribed by names and titles, the reverse bearing a central depiction of the god Hymen, topped by an inscription of “БОЖÏИМЪ ПРОВИДѢНÏЕМЪ” (“GOD PROVIDES”), and situated above an inscription of “БРАКОСОЧЕТАНIЕ СОВЕРШЕНО СЕНТЯБРЯ 29 / ДНЯ / 1773 / ГОДА” (“THE MARRIAGE WAS CELEBRATED ON SEPTEMBER 29 1773”), engraver and marker marked with the dedications of Johann Jaeger and Johann Gass, measuring 64.59 mm in diameter, weighing 84.8 grams, demonstrating minor loss of finish, in near extremely fine condition.
