Description
(Орден Святого Станислава, Звезда). Instituted 8 May 1765 by Stanisław II August of Poland; incorporated into Russian orders 1831 by Tsar Nicholas I. (1831-1917 issue). Constructed of silver with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of an eight-pointed starburst with pebbled rays, bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a central raised and red enameled monogram of St. Stanislaus of Szczepanów, situated within a silver ring, in turn circumscribed by a raised silver inscription of “PRÆMIANDO INCITAT” (“REWARDING ENCOURAGES”), in turn surrounded by a green enameled ring bearing laurel leaf branches and surrounded by silver rings at both the inner and outer edges, the reverse with a narrow raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flattened catch, maker marked “KEIBEL” for the noted St. Petersburg firm, along with an imperial warrant and zolotnik mark of “84” indicating 875 silver content, measuring 88.82 mm (w) x 88.80 mm (h), weighing 46.8 grams, demonstrating moderate cracking and chipping throughout the enamels, with a consistent patina visible throughout the silver base, in better than very fine condition.
