Spain, Kingdom. An Order of Isabella the Catholic, Grand Cross by Lemaitre, c.1900

(Orden de Isabel la Católica). Instituted March 24, 1815. A Grand Cross, in silver, presenting a four point cross of red enamelled arms with large ball finials, between each arm sits a cluster of seven smooth rays, the obverse medallion in Gold, features the hand-painted insignia of the order, surrounded by a green enamelled wreath with a white enamel banner inscribed A LA LEALTAD ACRISOLADA POR ISABEL LA CATOLICA (To Pure Loyalty, For Isabel the Catholic), the reverse medallion features a blue enamel field with the crowned FR monogram encircled by a white ring inscribed POR ISABEL LA CATOLICA (For Isabel the Catholic), surmounted by a green enamelled wreath, marked on the ring with Lemaitre mark, measures 39.1 mm (w) x 58.5 mm (h - inclusive of wreath suspension), worn on a replacement white and yellow sash, loss of gilt on cross, enamel loss on obverse medallion, in near very fine condition.

The Star, in silver gilt, presenting a four point cross of red enamelled arms with large ball finials, between each arm sits a cluster of seven smooth rays, the obverse medallion in Gold, features the hand-painted insignia of the order, surrounded by a green enamelled wreath with a white enamel banner inscribed A LA LEALTAD ACRISOLADA POR ISABEL LA CATOLICA (To Pure Loyalty, For Isabel the Catholic) with a surmounting crowned monogram of Ferdinand VII on a blue enamelled field, the reverse presents a vertical pin assembly with dual stays, the reverse cartouche presenting the maker mark of LEMAITRE, measures 76.6 mm (w) x 77.4 mm (h), enamel damage and replacements in arm, small areas of loss to medallion, remains in very fine condition.

Contained in a large red case, silk interior, measures 300 mm (w) x 140 mm (l) x 50 mm (d), exhibiting wear, staining and flaying of exterior, staining of interior, no clasps, in fine condition.
