Description
(Orden del Mérito Militar). Instituted by Queen Isabel II on August 3, 1864. A six-pointed star with multirayed arms in silvered bronze, the obverse is superimposed by an enameled white four-armed cross in bronze gilt, presenting alternated gilded lions and castles in each quadrant, with a central period Spanish coat of arms in enamels, 12 o’clock arms depicts a gilded clasp surmounted by a period Spanish crown both in bronze gilt, the reverse with pin assembly and two stays, measuring 61.37 mm (w) x 63.19 mm (h), with slightly wearing surfaces and stained enamel, bent tips for wearing, the centrepiece is mislocated, good condition.
Footnote: The Order of Military Merit was instituted by Queen Isabel II/Isabella II on August 3, 1864. It was established to recognize either Spanish or foreign military personnel in recognition of outstanding and meritorious actions in time of war or peace.
