Spain, Franco Period. An Order Of The Red Cross, Ii Class Medal, C.1940

(Cruz Roja Española). Instituted 1876. Franco Period (1938-1975). A rounded medal in silver gilt, with obverse centre featuring an enameled white and red symbol of the Red Cross, surrounded by an enameled green laurel wreath with beneath enameled black Malta’s shield, encircled by Latin inscription IN HOC SIGNO SALUS (In this Sign, Health) on a white enameled border, surmounted by typical of time period Imperial crown, with plain reverse, measuring 21.36 mm (w) x 29.30 mm (h- inclusive of integral ring), with lost of gilt and minor stained enamels, accompanied by original ribbon with bow for women wearing, very fine.

Footnote: The Spanish Order of the Red Cross was instituted by Isabel II on July 6, 1864. It has been awarded to members of the Spanish Red Cross in recognition of meritorious service within the realm of public health care and service.
