(Kungliga Vasaorden). Instituted in 1772. Type II. (1860-1975). In silver gilt, a white enamelled Maltese cross with ball finials, a crown in each quadrant, the obverse medallion features the symbol of Vasa, surrounded by a red enamelled ring inscribed INST MDCCLXXII GUSTAF DEN III, the reverse mirrors the obverse, the cross is surmounted by a crown and worn on an ovular loop attached to a full length green neck ribbon, the loop is maker marked CFC SAR, marked with the national control mark of three crowns in a trefoil, silver marked indicating a minimum of .800 fineness, date marked I9 denoting 1959, the cross measures 55.2mm (w) x 83.0mm (h – inclusive of cross adorned crown suspension), weighs 54.3 grams, enamels intact, in extremely fine condition.
Contained in its original case of issue featuring a red leatherette exterior, interior presents a light yellow silk lid with maker mark for C.F Carlman, the base offers a partial red velvet recessed medal bed with storage area near hinge for the ribbon, measures 90mm (w) x 130mm (l) x 30mm (d), light scuffs, hinge and clasp functional, in very fine condition.
