Sweden, Kingdom. A Royal Order of Vasa, II Class Knight, by C.F Carlman.

Instituted in 1772. II Period. (1866-1975). A Silver maltese cross in white enamel, each of the arms finished with two ball finials, four crowns at centre, obverse and reverse centres show gilt sheaf surrounded by a ring in red enamel with the inscription “Gustaf III Instiktare MDCCLXXII”, inclusive of crown suspension 61.8 mm (h) x 39.5 mm (w), on original green ribbon, in original red case, evidence of chipping on obverse left and right arm, very fine condition.

Footnote: The Royal Order of Vasa was instituted on 29 May 1772 by King Gustav III. It is a Swedish order of chivalry, awarded to citizens of Sweden for service to state and society especially in the fields of agriculture, mining and commerce. It was unrestricted by birth or education and could therefore be awarded to anyone.
