(Kungliga Vasaorden). Instituted in 1772. II Period (Issued 1866-1975). In 18 karat Gold and enamels, a white enamelled Gold Maltese cross with ball finials, with a Gold crown of Sweden in each quadrant, obverse roundel is charged with a vase and a sheaf encircled by a red enamelled band featuring the inscription “GUSTAF DEN III INST. MDCCLXXII”, with mirrored reverse roundel, marked on the 3 o'clock arm with makers mark CFC (denoting C.F. Carlman), Stockholm, Gold hallmarked 18k, as well as national mark of tri-crona, measuring 62 mm (h) x 40 mm (w) inclusive of Gold Crown of Sweden suspension, weighs 14.4 grams, on original green ribbon, near mint condition. Housed in a red hard shell case, white satin interior, marked C.F. CARLMAN on interior lid, red velvet medal bed, measures 62.5 mm (w) x 100.8 mm (l) x 24.7 mm (d), extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of Vasa was instituted on 26 May 1772 by King Gustav III. It is a Swedish order of chivalry, awarded to citizens of Sweden for service to state and society especially in the fields of agriculture, mining and commerce. It was unrestricted by birth or education and could therefore be awarded to anyone.
