Medal for Combat Service, Type II (in silver with red enamels, measuring 32.3 mm in diameter, original ribbon, mounted to a five-sided aluminum suspension with pinback); Medal for Distinguished Labour, Type II (in silver with red enamels, measuring 32 mm in diameter, on incorrect ribbon, mounted to a five-sided brass suspension with pinback); Medal for a Veteran of Labour (in aluminum alloy, measuring 34 mm in diameter, original ribbon, mounted to a five-sided aluminum suspension with pinback); and Medal for Veterans of the Armed Forces of the USSR (in aluminum alloy and red enamels, measuring 32 mm in diameter, original ribbon, mounted to a five-sided aluminum suspension with pinback). Intact enamels, ranging from very fine to near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Medal for Combat Service was instituted on October 17, 1938 and awarded for "combat action resulting in a military success", "courageous defence of the state borders", or "successful military and political training and preparation". It was also awarded for ten years' service prior to the creation of the long service awards. The Medal for Distinguished Labour was instituted on December 27, 1938 and awarded to labourers who distinguished themselves with high production rates or for development of culture/science/manufacturing. The Medal for a Veteran of Labour was instituted on January 18, 1974 and awarded to workers at retirement age to mark their service in industry, culture, medicine, education, etc. It could also be awarded to retiring members of the Armed Forces. The Medal for Veterans of the Armed Forces of the USSR was instituted on May 20, 1976 and awarded to servicemen in the armed forces, MVD, KGB and border guards for twenty-five years' service.
