Russia, Soviet Union. A Second War Medal Bar Group of Six Medals, Awards, and Decorations

A fine example of a Second War medal bar group of six medals, awards, and decorations, consisting of:

1. An Order of the Red Banner. (Орден Красного Знамени). Instituted on August 1st, 1924. Type III. Constructed of silver, with red, and white enamels, consisting of a large red enamel banner bearing the inscription "Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!" ("Workers of the world, unite!") in gilt  lettering, the center with a depiction of a hammer and sickle with a five-pointed red enamel star superimposed on the award, surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath, the reverse is plain, mint marked "МОНЕТНЫЙ ДВОР" (Monetny Dvor) and number engraved "346252”, suspended using an affixed and a swivel ring from the medal bar, measuring 37.3 mm (w) x 44.8 mm (l). 

2. An Order of Glory, III. Class. (Орден Славы). Instituted November 8th, 1943. A five-pointed star constructed of silver and red enamels, the obverse depicting the Spasskaya Tower of the Kremlin, red-enameled scroll reads “СЛАВА”, medallion framed by laurel branches, reverse stamped with number “546543” and inscribed “CCCP” centrally, measuring 45.8 mm (w) x 48.0 mm (l). 

3-4. Two Medals for Battle Merit. (За боевые заслуги). Instituted on October 17th, 1938. Variant II, constructed of silver, the obverse bearing a central raised inscription of “ЗА БОЕВЫЕ ЗАСЛУГА” (“FOR BATTLE MERIT”), situated above a crossed rifle and sword, and topped by red enameled initials “СССР” (“USSR”), unnumbered and unmarked, measuring 32.2 mm in diameter.

5. A Medal for the Defence of Leningrad. (За оборону Ленинграда). Instituted December 22nd, 1942. A circular brass medal with a raised rim, the forefront in the lower half of the obverse, the relief images of a helmetet Red Army soldier (nearest), a sailor (middle) and a worker (farthest), all three with rifles at the ready. In the background of the entire obverse, the relief outline of the Leningrad Admiralty building and circumscribed “ЗА ОБОРОНУ ЛЕНИНГРАДА” (For Defence of Leningrad), the reverse with a relief image of the hammer and sickle and inscribed “ЗА НАШУ СОВЕТСКУЮ РОДИНУ” (For Our Soviet Motherland), measuring 32.1 mm in diameter. 

6. A Medal for the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945. (За победу над Германией в Великой Отечественной войне 1941—1945). Instituted May 9th, 1945. Constructed of brass with a raised rim, the obverse depicting the left-facing profile of Joseph Stalin, inscribed “НАШЕ ДЕЛО ПРАВОЕ” (Our Cause is Righteous) and “МЫ ПОБЕДИЛИ” (We are Victorious), the reverse is inscribed “ЗА ПОБЕДУ НАД ГЕРМАНИЕЙ” (Victory over Germany), and “В ВЕЛИКОЙ ОТЕЧЕСТВЕННОЙ ВОЙНЕ 1941—1945” (In the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45), unmarked, measuring 32.2 mm in diameter.

All medals, awards, and decorations are suspended from swivel loop suspensions with the exception of the Medal for the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War, which is missing its anciliary suspension loop and is therefore sits on the bar on an angle, the core of the medal bar is constructed of aluminum and features six pentagonal ribbons for each of the awards, in overall near very fine condition.
