In response to evolving domestic opinion, eMedals Inc has made the conscious decision to remove the presentation of German Third Reich historical artifacts from our online catalogue. For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. We acknowledge the growing sentiments put forth by the Canadian public and have taken proactive actions to address this opinion.

(Neshaan-e shir o khorshid). / نشان سلطنتی شیر و خورشید). Instituted in 1808. In silver, each of the six star points with five faceted rays, with a green enamelled ray between each star point, designating it as a III Class award, handpainted enamelled centrepiece, unmarked, measuring 70.7 mm (w) x 75.5 mm (h) inclusive of its star suspension, all six of the green enamelled rays have been re-enamelled of which two are chipped with some loss evident, on a length of green ribbon simulating a neck ribbon, better than very fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, black textured exterior on five sides, brown paper bottom, lid bearing the Iranian lion surmounted by the royal crown, with the Arabic number "٣" (III Class) below in gold-coloured ink, inside lid in white cloth, padded and maker marked "SANIOLMAMALEK TÉHÉRAN", base with a medal bed in navy blue felt that is recessed for the badge and slotted for the loop, measuring 96.5 mm (w) x 170 mm (h) x 30 mm (d), light scuffing and wear on the exterior, missing a pin in one of the hinges causing the lid to be loose versus the base, case better than very fine.
Footnote: The Imperial Order of the Lion and the Sun was instituted by Fat’h Ali Shah of the Qajar Dynasty in 1808, to honour foreign officials (later extended to Persians) who had rendered distinguished services to Persia. In 1925, under the Pahlavi dynasty the Order continued as the Order of Homayoun with new insignia, though based on the Lion and Sun motif. This motif was used for centuries by the rulers of Persia, being formally adopted under Mohammad Shah. The order was senior to the Order of the Crown. It was issued in five grades.
