In response to evolving domestic opinion, eMedals Inc has made the conscious decision to remove the presentation of German Third Reich historical artifacts from our online catalogue. For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. A group of 10 medals, including: A Medal for the July 17, 1968 Revolution (marked “HUGUENIN SWISS MADE”); 2 Mother of All Battles Medals (Baath Party Issue); A Mother of All Battles Medal (Saddam Hussein Issue); A Medal For 18 November 1963 (marked “HUGUENIN SWISS MADE”); A Medal for Peace 1970, II Class (marked “HUGUENIN SWISS MADE”); A Police General Service Medal (marked “HUGUENIN SWISSE”); A May 1941 Revolution Medal; A Medal for the Crushing of the Northern Rebellion. All medals in this lot range from very fine to near mint condition.
Footnote: The Medal for the July 17, 1968 Revolution was awarded to commemorate the revolution of 17 July 1968.
The Mother of All Battles Medal is a medal awarded by Iraq to its military personnel who served in the Persian Gulf War.
The Medal for 18 November 1963 was established in 1963 and awarded in commemoration of the 18 November 1963 takeover of the powers of government by General Abd al-Salam Muhammad Arif and Colonel Said Slaibi, which resulted in the creation of a new Revolution Command Council and saw the expulsion of the Ba'ath Party from power.
The Medal for Peace 1970 was awarded in commemoration of the establishment of a formal peace agreement for authority and administration between Iraq and the Kurds on March 11, 1970, marking the end of conflict with the Kurds.
The Police General Service Medal was instituted in 1939 and awarded for general service in the police; it was discontinued in 1958.
The May 1941 Revolution Medal is thought to have been established in 1959 in commemoration of the 1941 Iraqi Rebellion led by Prime Minister Rashid Ali al-Gaylani, between May and April, which brought about the deposition of pro-British regime of Abdul-llah and Prime Minister Nuri al-Saud and the installation of Rashid Ali al-Gaylani of Prime Minister of Iraq. However, the Medal may also have been made in commemoration of the subsequent British-led revolt which overthrew the pro-axis government and resulted in the re-occupation of Iraq by British Armed Forces. More research is needed to confirm the regulations of the award.
The Medal for the Crushing of the Northern Rebellion was instituted in 1964 to mark the crushing of the 'Northern Rebellion' against Northern Iraq based Kurdish groups who had been in open rebellion in the period 1961-1964.
The Supreme Worthiness Medal, 1992-1993 is believed to have been instituted between 1992 and 1993 by the Ba'ath Party following the First Gulf War.
