Description
(Nishan-I-Taj-I-Iran). Instituted in 1900 (c. 1950). Constructed of silver gilt and multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a five-pointed white and green enameled Maltese star with ball finials and with multiple rays protruding from the center of the award between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central medallion bearing an ornate crown in a field of light-blue enamels, surrounded by a ring decorated with a green enameled laurel and oak wreath, the reverse with a large light blue enameled central medallion depicting a sun bearing a central face with multiple rays of sunshine emanating front he center, suspended from a green enameled oval swivel ring of laurel and oak leaves with a pierced ball and swivel ring for suspension using a period original ribbon featuring a large rosette, unmarked, measuring 45.5 mm (w) x 43.6 mm (l), weighing 32.80 grams, with light to moderate loss of the gilt finish, in near very fine condition.
Accompanied by a presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden frame with a dark blue/navy coloured faux leather exterior, along with a functional exterior metal hinge, intact interior fabric hinge cover, and functional push-button closure, the exterior of the case with a lion wielding a saber superimposed on rays of sunshine within a laurel wreath and topped by an ornate Iranian crown, the interior of the lid with an off-white cushioned silk-blended fabric and with a straight pale orange medal bed for placing of the award, measuring 73 mm (w) x 135 mm (l), with wear evident to the exterior corners of the case, in near very fine condition.
