Instituted February 15th, 1939. (c. 1960 issue). Constructed of silver, consisting of a star of rays with six tips, the obverse with a central hand-painted medallion depicting a Lion wielding a saber with a sun and blue sky in the background, surrounded by a green and red enameled ring, the reverse plain, on an interlocking dual ring and oval loop for suspension from its period-original neck ribbon, marked “AB & Cie” on the loop as well as “800” for silver content, measuring 67.4 mm (w) x 77.2 mm (l), weighing 51.70 grams. The award is housed in the original case of issue, constructed of lightweight wooden frame with a burgundy faux leather exterior, the exterior of the lid is embossed with a Lion wielding a saber with a sun in the background and royal crown above, the interior of the lid lined with off-white silk stamped “Arthus Bertrand - Paris”, with a long exterior metal hinge and an intact interior fabric hinge cover, measuring 92 mm (w) x 158 mm (l), accompanied by its matching miniature boutonniere, the case in fine condition with wear to the exterior but the award extremely well preserved in better than extremely fine condition.
