Instituted February 15th, 1939. Constructed of silver, consisting of a star of rays with four tips with multiple rays in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central hand-painted medallion depicting a Lion wielding a saber with a sun and blue sky in the background, surrounded by a green and red enameled ring, the reverse plain, with a central medallion marked “Arthus Bertrand”, on an interlocking dual ring and round loop for suspension from its period-original shortened ribbon, marked “AB & Co” on the loop as well as “800” for silver contentmeasuring 60.0 mm (w) x 59.5 mm (l), weighing 30.62 grams. Accompanied by a presentation case, constructed of lightweight wooden frame with a burgundy faux leather exterior, the interior of the lid lined with off-white silk, with functional dual exterior metal hinges, ripped interior fabric hinge cover, and defective exterior snap closure, measuring 83 mm (w) x 130 mm (l), the central painted disc on the award is twisted to the left, but is in otherwise near extremely fine condition.
