For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. Description
In copper, maker marked with the Jacoby Brothers of Vancouver aladdin lamp insignia on the reverse, illustrating a maple leaf with multiple veins, inscribed "YT" (Yukon Territory) in the centre, with a "DAWSON" ribbon banner above and a "CANADA" ribbon banner below, all of which are surmounted by a King's crown, measuring 37.8 mm (w) x 38.3 mm (h), both lugs intact, very light contact, near extremely fine.
Footnote:
1. The Yukon Infantry Company was a unit raised by Commissioner of the Yukon, George Black and organized on December 22, 1915. A badge was produced to be used by the "sourdoughs" from the Klondike. Jacoby Brothers of Vancouver was to be the maker, with the design shape to be similar to that of Boyle’s Yukon Machine Gun Detachment, but having the words "Dawson" on a ribbon banner with "YT" (Yukon Territory) underneath followed by "Canada" on a second ribbon banner, all under a King’s Crown.
2. Jacoby Brothers was a family business founded in 1909 by four brothers and two sisters in Vancouver, British Columbia, choosing the aladdin lamp as their maker's mark. Alfred (Dick) Jacoby managed the firm and Martin Jacoby served as engraver and die maker. They produced souvenir spoons and 9K gold "coins" for use in making jewellery. Martin left the company in 1926 and Dirk turned the business to his two sons in the 1940s. The firm went bankrupt in 1985.
