Hardcover, black cloth cover, the front cover with a recessed area incorporating a colour printed image of artillerymen in the field that is pasted in place, the text on the front and the spine in red ink, entitled "Gun-Fire - An Historical Narrative of The 4th Bde. C.F.A. 1914-1918", compiled by The 4th Brigade, C.F.A. Association, edited by Lieutenant J.A. MacDonald, 15th and 30th Batteries, C.F.A., illustrations by Lieutenant S.T.J. Foyer, 13th and 26th Batteries, C.F.A., printed by The Greenaway Press of Toronto in 1929. The inside front cover has a blank owner's label pasted in place and is marked |No. 463". A note on the lead page states: "To the memory of those of the 4th Brigade (Canadian Field Artillery) who made the supreme sacrifice, whose names are recorded herein, and engraved in our hearts as "Our Glorious Dead", this history is dedicated." It begins with a Table of Contents, followed by Lists of eleven Illustrations and eleven Maps, a Preface by Lieutenant John A. MacDonald and an Introductory by Major-General A.G. McNaughton, C.M.G., D.S.O. It contains two Books (I and II): Book I with four Parts: Part I (November 6th, 1914 - May 21st, 1916), with five chapters (1. Mobilization; 2. England; 3. Arrival in Flanders; 4. Trench Warfare; 5. St. Eloi); Part II (May 21st, 1916 - March 17th, 1917), with five chapters (1. Sanctuary Wood and Hooge; 2. Courcelette; 3. Regina Trench; 4. Signal Communication; 5. In Front of Vimy); Part III (March 7th, 1917 to June 21st, 1917), with two chapters (1. Battle of Vimy Ridge; 2. Minor Operations); Part IV (June 21st, 1917 to May 28th 1919), with ten chapters (1. Siege of Lens; 2. Hill 70; 3. Passchendaele; 4. Return to Vimy; 5. Holding the Ridge; 6. Amiens; 7.
