1939-1945 Star; Africa Star; Italy Star; France and Germany Star; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp; Defence Medal; War Medal 1939-1945; and Korea Medal (SD-800504 R. TAILLEFER). Naming is officially engraved on the KM, the seven Second War awards are un-named as issued. Mounted to a suspension with swing bar pinback, as worn by the veteran, dark patinas on the silver medals, very light contact, better than very fine. Accompanied by copies of his Service Records.
Footnote: Roland Taillefer was taken on strength as a Gunner (D-132343) with the Royal Canadian Artillery (Reinforcements) at No. 4 District Depot in Montreal, Quebec on October 23, 1942. A month later, he was posted to the Canadian Army Basic Training Centre at Sorel on November 18th, then transferred to the Canadian Army Training Centre in Petawawa on January 6, 1943. Upon finishing his training, Gunner Taillefer proceeded overseas for service in the Second World War on March 29, 1943, disembarking in the United Kingdom on April 3rd. Almost seven months after arriving in the United Kingdom, he embarked for service in the Italian theatre on November 11, 1943, disembarking on December 8th. While in Italy, he was awarded one Good Conduct Badge on October 23, 1944. After fifteen months in the Italian theatre, Gunner Taillefer embarked Italy on February 27, 1945, disembarking in France on March 2nd, for service in Continental Europe. Upon the ceasing of hostilities in the European theatre, he was struck off strength of the Canadian Army Overseas upon embarkation on August 5, 1945 and was taken on strength by the Canadian Army Pacific Force on August 10th, but his service was not required in the Pacific theatre as hostilities were ceasing there as well. D-132343 Gunner (Artilleur) Roland Taillefer, Royal Canadian Artillery was discharged upon demobilization at No. 4 District Depot in Montreal, Quebec, on December 21, 1945, credited with having served in the Central Mediterranean Area and Continental Europe. For his Second World War service, he was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Africa Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp, the Defence Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. D 409120 Sergeant Taillefer was with the Canadian Army Militia, serving with Royal Canadian Artillery for one year and seven months, from January 31, 1949 to August 21, 1950, when he reported for enlistment as a Private (D 409120) on August 9, 1950 in Montreal and was allocated to the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps on August 12th. He was posted to the Royal 22nd Regiment at Valcartier on August 16, 1950, for eventual service in the Korean theatre. Three months later, he was with the Royal 22nd Regiment when he was posted to Fort Lewis near Tacoma, Washington on November 17, 1950, for additional training.
Upon arrival at Fort Lewis, he was appointed Lance Corporal, then promoted to Acting Corporal on March 30, 1951. Acting Corporal Taillefer embarked the United States for service in the Korean War on April 19, 1951, disembarking in the Far East on May 4th and during the journey over, he was confirmed in the rank of Corporal on May 1st. His Korean War service with the Royal 22nd Regiment would entail ten months, before he embarked the Far East for Canada on March 12, 1952, arriving home on the 14th and posted to the Royal 22nd Regiment at the Citadel in Quebec City on the 21st. He passed Parachute Jump Course No. 136 and was awarded the Canadian Parachute Badge on June 20, 1952. He is credited with having participated in the Coronation ceremonies for Queen Elizabeth II in London, in June 1953. The men from the Royal 22nd Regiment, the Royal Canadian Regiment and the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry shared the duty at Buckingham Palace and nearby St. James Palace. SD 800504 Corporal Taillefer, Royal 22nd Regiment, Canadian Army was discharged upon demobilization at No. 4 Personnel Depot in Montreal, Quebec, credited with having served in Canada and the Extreme Orient, from March 15, 1951 to April 18, 1954. For his Korean War service, he was awarded the Korea Medal. In his records, it states that he was also entitled to the United Nations Service Medal for Korea. D 409120 Sergeant Taillefer was with the Canadian Army Militia, serving with Le Régiment de Joliette, from April 6, 1959 to December 22, 1964. He began service in the rank of Private, passing the the Junior NCO Course on June 12, 1959. He was promoted to Acting Corporal on October 17, 1959, then to Acting Sergeant on October 15, 1961. He passed the Senior NCO Course on April 25, 1962 and was promoted to Sergeant on June 1, 1953. He was awarded his Fifth Service Chevron with Maple Leaf on November 19, 1960. Sergeant Taillefer was awarded the Canadian Forces' Decoration on April 6, 1964 and was discharged from service on December 22, 1964.
