A 1939-1945 Star, in bronze gilt, full size, reverse plain, worn on original ribbon, dark patina in the inscription ring, light contact marks in extremely fine condition.
An Italy Star, in bronze gilt, full size, reverse plain, worn on original ribbon, light contact, gilt wear and elastic residue on the medal, remains in very fine condition.
A 1939-1945 War Medal, in silver,full size, worn on original ribbon, light scratches, dark patina near the base, in very fine condition.
A Defence Medal, in silver, full size, worn on original ribbon, light wear, in very fine condition.
A Canadian Services Volunteer Medal, in silver, full size, on original ribbon, missing overseas bar, light wear, oxidation to silver, in very fine condition.
An R.C.A.M.C Shoulder Title, in brass, two lugs on the reverse, measures 58.8mm (w) x 13.0mm (h), exhibiting oxidation, in very fine condition.
Four Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps Collar Tabs, in bronze gilt and silvered bronze, vertical pin on reverse, measures 25.0 mm (w) x 33.5 mm (h), three with hollow backs and one with solid back marked SCULLY MONTREAL, each in very fine condition.
Three R.C.A.M.C brass buttons, a lug on the reverse, marked GAUNT LONDON on the reverse, all in very fine condition.
A Canadian Memorial Token, a coin that has been affixed with a suspension ring, obverse with the hand engraved monogram of the King GRV, and bust of Victoria on the reverse, measures 15.6 mm (w) x 18.9 mm (h), very dark patina, in very fine condition.
Accompanied by a photo album consisting of numerous newspaper clippings of Gerow, photographs, and copies of her service records; numerous small photographs of cityscapes and the harbour in England (inclusive of the negative films), and a letter which appears as a tarot card reading for Gerow.
Footnote: Dorothy Kathlene Gerow was born in Blenheim, Ontario on May 14, 1912. She attended the Women’s College Hospital in Toronto for nursing training, and graduated in 1935.P Prior to enlisting for the Army as a nursing sister in May 1942, she was employed as a nurse in Toronto. She served at Camp Borden, Ontario, prior to heading overseas in September 1943 to No. 9 General Hospital, England. She then served for nine months in Italy, returning to England in 1945 and back to Canada to the Toronto Military Hospital. In 1948, she was moved to Wolseley Barracks, London, to take charge of the new hospital, the sole woman in command. She left the army in excellent standing in 1951. During her service, Gerow met her husband Frank Lewis (Lew) DeMone, a lieutenant of the Royal Canadian Artillery. The couple moved to Halifax in the 1980s. Gerow passed away in Camp Hill Hospital.
