Artillery shell body in brass with a copper coating, the bottom circular plate in brass and stamped with a series of marks, including: "4 In Mk IV GUN" (4 Inch Mark IV Gun), lot number "LOT 88", manufacturer marked "KN" (Kings Norton Metal Company) within a roll-style/can-style frame, marked with the British Broad Arrow acceptance mark, marked "N" (Naval), marked "DU" within a diamond-shaped frame, marked "CRB" over "1925", dated "1916", marked "CF" (Cordite Filling) and "F" over the British Broad Arrow acceptance mark. The shell is adorned with thirty-nine Canadian Expeditionary Force badges in browning copper, pickled copper or brass, each badge secured in place to the shell via one or two pins, the 12th and 200th Infantry Battalion badges with a "12" and "200" silver overlay identifying them as officer's badges. Included are: twenty-six Cap Badges representing the 12th, 20th (2), 27th (2), 32nd, 79th, 102nd, 108th, 121st, 131st, 152nd, 158th, 172nd, 183rd, 184th, 195th, 200th, 214th, 221st, 222nd, 223rd, 225th and 253rd Infantry Battalions, along with the Canadian Engineers and the Canadian Pioneers; ten Collar Badges representing the 47th, 53rd, 79th, 94th, 113th, 128th and 188th Infantry Battalions, along with the 1st Pioneer Battalion, the 1st Tank Battalion and the Royal Canadian Garrison Artillery; and three Shoulder Badges representing the 54th, 107th and 195th Infantry Battalions. It weighs approximately 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms) and measures 315 mm in height x 110 mm in width (140 mm in width across the opening inclusive of its rolled lip). The badges themselves remain pristine, retaining the detail from their original First War period stampings, with very light contact, all badges firmly secured to the shell, none of which are loose. Extremely fine.
