(Orden de Honor y Mérito de la Cruz Roja Cubana). Instituted in 1913. Type I. The badge with a multi-piece construction, the cross in silver gilt with red, white, light green, dark green, light blue, ultramarine blue and dark blue enamels, the cross mounted to a base with eight arms bearing faceted rays, with silver stars between each of the four arms, suspended from a wreath in silver gilt with dark green enamels, maker marked "VILARDEBO & RIERA HABANA" and marked "FABRICADO EN CUBA" (Manufactured in Cuba) on the reverse cartouche, measuring 58 mm (w) x 85.5 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath and laterally-pierced ball suspension, intact enamels, very light contact, on its original full-length neck ribbon, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of Honour and Merit of the Cuban Red Cross was instituted by Presidential Decree on January 31, 1913. The Cuban Red Cross was founded on May 14, 1909, and soon after it was allowed to grant awards in the country. The Order was awarded for meritorious services according to the rank of the recipient, the Order abolished in 1977. Type I has stars between the arms of the cross, while Type II has rays between the arms of the cross.
