Colin Powell’s Commander Grade Venezuelan Military of National Defence Award, awarded by the President of Venezuela to Powell on January 7th, 1992, from the estate of Colin Powell, consisting of:
1. A neck badge, constructed of gilded bronze with red and blue enamels, consisting of an oval award with twenty-six tips, with a central applique of the Coat of Arms of Venezuela, surrounded by a ring of red enamels, inscribed with “Gloria Al Bravo Pueblo” (Glory to the Brave People), with an exterior ring of blue enamels bearing two laurel stalks along with seven stars near the top of the award, the reverse plain, inscribed “Orden Militar de La Defensa Nacional” with the Venezuelan flag in multi-coloured enamels, suspended from dual suspension rings and its full-length neck ribbon, measuring 61.5 mm (w) x 46.0 mm (l), in mint condition.
2. A breast badge, constructed of gilded bronze with red and blue enamels, consisting of an oval award with twenty-six tips, with a central applique of the Coat of Arms of Venezuela, surrounded by a ring of red enamels, inscribed with “Gloria Al Bravo Pueblo” (Glory to the Brave People), with an exterior ring of blue enamels bearing two laurel stalks along with seven stars near the top of the award, with a leftward and rightward facing laurel stalk rising up along the sides of the award, along with four red enameled fleur-de-lis, the reverse plain, inscribed “Orden Militar de La Defensa Nacional” with the Venezuelan flag in multi-coloured enamels, with a sheet metal hinge, round wire pin, and twist-release catch, measuring 68.9 mm (w) x 88.2 mm (l), in mint condition.
3. The neck badge and breast badge are accompanied by a miniature of the award, along with a ribbon bar, and a boutonniere, as well as its case of issue, constructed of a lightweight wooden core with a light grey faux leather exterior, the exterior of the lid is embossed with “Condecoracion Orden Militar de la Defensa National - Grado Comendador” in gilt capitalized letters, the interior of the lid is lined with white silk and is embossed by the maker “Insignias Los Proceres” in capitalized gilt letters, with an intact fabric hinge cover and blue felt medal bed with black loops to hold the awards in place, in mint condition.
4. The award document for the Commander Grade of the Orden Militar de la Defensa Nacional to General Colin Powell, dated “January 7th, 1992” and signed by the President of Venezuela, Carlos Andrés Pérez, contained in a file-folder constructed of heavy cardstock with a textured green faux leather exterior, the exterior of the folder embossed with “República de Venezuela Ministerio de la Defensa - General Colin E. Powell” in gilt uppercase and lowercase lettering, measuring 255 mm (w) x 350 mm (l), in mint condition.
