Footnote: 38-421-893 John Henry Hinson Jr. was born in Louisiana and was a resident of Texas when he enlisted with the United States Army. During the Second World War, he served as a Field Artillery Lineman with the Headquarters Battery, 135th Field Artillery Battalion, 37th Infantry Division. He is credited with having participated in the Solomon Islands Campaign and was present at the Battle of Luzon in the Philippines. He was one of 6,807 Bronze Star Medal recipients with the 37th Infantry Division and was wounded in action, earning him the Purple Heart, one of 4,861 members of the division who were wounded in action.
