Footnote: Joseph Homer Hoffman, Jr was born in Washington DC on July 7, 1922. He graduated from the US. Military Academy at West Point in 1945 and continued to serve in the second World War, Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1975 as a U.S Army Colonel. His legion of Merit synopsis is as follows: for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States, culminating as Commanding Officer, Readiness Group, Fore Meade, Maryland from 1973 to 1975.
The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Hoffman culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and his dedicated contributions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army. The distinguished flying cross was awarded “for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as a Battalion Commander of the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action in the Republic of Vietnam.”
