(Orden del Mérito). Instituted in 1906. Type VI (1939 -present). Badge: three-piece construction, in bronze gilt with white enamels, unmarked, measuring 46.8 mm (w) x 67.3 mm (h) inclusive of its Andean condor suspension, loop suspension, chipping evident in the star point at 12 o'clock on both sides and on one additional star point on both sides, adhesive residue present on the white enamels on the star point at 3 o'clock due to repositioning of the centrepiece; and Breast Star: three-piece construction, insignia in bronze gilt with red and blue enamels, centred on a star in bronze gilt with white enamels, each of the five star points with ball finials, mounted to a base with ten rounded star bursts in silver gilt, unmarked, measuring 76 mm (w) x 73 mm (h), vertical pinback flanked by dual stays, chipping evident on four of the five white enamelled star points, the central insignia loose versus the base. Together, near very fine.
Footnote: The Order of Merit was instituted on September 4, 1906. It is awarded for meritorious service provided by foreigners to the Republic of Chile, in five grades: I Class Grand Cross, II Class Grand Officer, III Class Commander, IV Class Officer and V Class Knight.
