Orden de Palmas Magistrales. Instituted 1949. In silver, A white enamel templar cross with thin red enamel borders, with a laurel wreath segment in each quadrant, a single silver ray is super imposed on each arm leading to the obverse center medallion which features a small sunburst with a face in silver gilt, surrounded by a white enamel ring inscribed PALMAS MAGISTERIALES DEL PERU, the reverse is plain, measures 40.60mm (w) x 43mm (h – inclusive of integral ring at 12 o’clock), weighs 21.9 grams, maker marked on suspension ring for Arthus Bertrand & Co, with a silver fineness of .800, worn on a correct original ribbon, enamels intact, in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The Order of the Magisterial Palms (Orden de Palmas Magistrales) was established by the Peruvian government in 1949, to reward professionals in the field of education who have made an exemplary contribution to education, science, culture, and technology. The grades of the Order are Educator, Master, and Amauta. The Educator consists of the badge suspended by the collar of the Order. The Master is awarded on a neck ribbon, and the Amauta is awarded as a Knight.
