(Imperial Ordem da Rosa). Instituted 1829 by Dom Pedro I. Dom Pedro II issue. In Gold, a highly attractive star consisting of a multi-rayed six arms with cleft ends, surmounting by a ball-tipped white enameled six pointed cross with elegant golden edges, presenting well-executed enameled pink and white roses and green laurels interlaced between arms, with centre superposed by the monograms “P” and “A”, Pedro I and Amelia, surrounding by a blue enameled border inscribed AMOR E FIDELIDADE (Love and Fidelity), reverse with pin assembly, measuring 53.56 mm (w) x 53.88 mm (h), weighting 31.9 grams, with minor tarnished Gold, near to mint.
Footnote: The Order of the Rose was founded to commemorate the marriage of Dom Pedro I and Amalie Napoleon on august 2, 1829. It was the most popular order in Brazil during the Pedro I reign. It was abolished in 1890 when the Empire of Brazil was overthrown.
