(Orden de Vasco Nuñez de Balboa). Instituted in 1941. Four-piece construction, in bronze gilt with white, red and green enamels, unmarked, measuring 58 mm (w) x 61.8 mm (h) inclusive of its laterally-pierced ball suspension, chipping and loss evident in the green enamels on the wreath at the upper left, the remaining enamels intact, on its full-length original neck ribbon, better than very fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, brown pebbled exterior, Panamanian coat-of-arms in gold-coloured ink on the lid, inside lid in white satin and padded, base with a raised platform incorporating a medal bed in maroon felt and slotted for the loop, measuring 116 mm (w) x 165 mm (h) x 31 mm (d), the arms of the lid exhibiting wear, case also better than very fine.
Footnote: The Order of Vasco Nuñez de Balboa was instituted on July 1, 1941 and is awarded for distinguished diplomatic services and contributions to international relations between Panama and other states, in five grades: Extraordinary Grand Cross, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander and Knight.
