Description
(Orden del Libertador). Instituted October 22nd, 1813 by Simon Bolivar. A cased order of the Liberator, consisting of:
1. A I Class breast star, constructed of faceted silvered and gilded bronze with enamels, in the shape of an eight-pointed star with five rays between each arm, along with a multi-ray sunburst with dual rays, the obverse with an ovular medallion featuring the right facing profile of Simon Bolivar in a blue enamel surround inscribed “Simon Bolivar” in capital letters, the reverse with a lateral hinge, vertical pinback, and ball clasp, unmarked, measuring 83.4 mm (w) x 91.6 mm (l), weighing 83.00 grams.
2. A I Class Sash Cross, constructed of bronze gilt, in the shape of multi-ray sunburst with dual rays, on a pierced ball and ring for suspension from its period original sash ribbon of issue, the obverse with an ovular medallion featuring the right facing profile of Simon Bolivar in a blue enamel surround inscribed “Simon Bolivar” in capital letters, the reverse features the Venezuelan Coat of Arms surrounded by arabesques in high relief, measuring 44.1 mm (w) x 56.9 mm (l - inclusive of its pierced ball suspension), weighing 38.62 grams.
3. A miniature of the Sash Cross suspended from a ribbon with a miniature rosette and golden silver aluminum bullion tresse, measuring 13.8 mm (w) x 25.3 mm (l) with miniature boutonniere featuring a rosette and a strip of matching golden silver aluminum bullion tresse.
4. Accompanied by its case of issue, constructed of a light wooden core with a textured faux leather exterior, the lid is embossed “Orden del Libertador” in golden capital letters with the Venezuelan Coat of Arms directly below and marked “Primera Clase” (I Class), the inside of the lid is lined with silk and marked “Distintivos Venezolanos Fabricantes” in golden capital embossed letters with a red felted medal bed for the accommodation of the awards, the interior fabric hinge cover and exterior leatherette hinge cover are fully intact, with a standard clasp for closure, measuring 165 mm (w) x 338 mm (l) x 50 mm (h), one of the interior supports for the felt tray has come loose but is supplied.
A fine example of a complete Order of the Libertador, I Class, in its original case of issue, in overall better than extremely fine condition.
