Description
Description
(Ein zweiseitiger Wehrmacht Gebirgsjäger Anorak). A rare and extremely well preserved example of a Wehrmacht mountain troops smock and jumpers, constructed of a two-sided weather-hardened cotton-rayon blend. The one side is white, while the other is mouse-grey. At the neck of the tunic is a vertical slit with five pairs of eyelets, with a period-correct drawstring, and two wind flaps (one per side) that secures shut with three vertically mounted matching bakelite buttons on both sides. Each side of the smock has three pockets, oriented horizontally in a row at breast height across the chest. Every pocket, on both sides, is secured shut via scalloped flap and a single bakelite button. The hood has an integrated draw-string for tightening the hood during adverse weather conditions. At waist-height, on the winter side of the smock, is an internal channel with a period correct drawstring. Each cuff has a fabric strip at the end, acting as a drawstring, with a metal buckle for tightening the cuff. The reverse of the smock has two horizontal-slit pockets, one on either side, with a large drawstring to pull up the reverse of the tunic for easier access to the belt. It measures approximately 60 cm across the shoulders (seam to seam), with a sleeve length of 57 cm, and an overall length of approximately 80 cm. The jumpers are constructed of matching two-sided weather-hardened cotton-rayon blend, and are of simple construction, without pockets or a front opening. They are marked “Wilhelm Benger Söhne” and “2” on the mouse-grey side of the seam. At the waist is an integral belt that loops through an interior channel at the waist, coming out at the front, and weaving through a magnetic metal buckle. There is an integral set of drawstrings on the cuff of each leg, with a slit at the bottom to thread the string. They measure approximately 58 cm across the waist, with an inseam of 72 cm, and an overall length of 106 cm. The smock and jumpers are in worn condition, both sides showing light discolouration from age and wear, in overall extremely fine condition.
