Description
(Order of the Fundamental Pact). Instituted January 16 1860. A beautiful and extremely rare breast star of this single class order, from the reign of M’hamed el Hedi Bey (1902-1906). In 22 karat Gold (tested), this star presents an artisan made circular obverse plate in red enamels with crescent moon pattern on flowing flag ribbons, a ring of approximately 3.0 carats of genuine emeralds encircle the raised cipher of Beys with cut emeralds in the center (one emerald chip missing), superimposed on a jeweller-made ten armed green enamel star, the reverse presents a vertical pin flanked by dual stays, the star measures 71.39mm (w) x 78.39mm (h), weighs 104.47 grams, enamels flaking specifically in the green rays and green flag at 12 o’clock, the plate and star likely period affixed as the plate is slightly off center, wear consistent with age, hinge and catch functional, a truly lovely star of this very rare order.
Footnote: This single-class order was established by decree of January 16, 1860 by M'hamed es Sadok Bey and was reserved by the Bey for selected generals and ministers. In rare cases, it was also awarded to foreigners. The extremely prestigious order disappeared with the Hussite monarchy in 1957.
