A Royal Order of Francis I; Grand Cross by Rothe - In silver gilt and enamels, 60mm (x 100mm including crown suspension), ring marked CFR 925 (for Rothe, Wien), official maker of this insignia; of excellent quality manufacture, circa 1930’s, slightly worn, in extremely fine condition. Footnote: Although the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was dissolved and annexed to the new Kingdom of Italy in 1861, Royal House of the Two Sicilies continued its existence in exile, until the present day. Some Sovereigns continued to maintain diplomatic relations with the exiled Court, including the Emperor of Austria, the Kings of Bavaria, Württemberg and Hanover, the Queen of Spain, the Emperor of Russia, and the Papacy. The exiled Royal Family continued the tradition of bestowal of Royal insignia upon the members of the friendly Royal Houses and politicians to this day
