Description
Description
A rare functional example of a Junghans Kriegsmarine Navigator’s Stopwatch. Junghans was founded by Erhard Junghans on April 15 1861, and continues to make quality timepieces in Schramberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany today. The case of this stopwatch is manufactured in nickel-silver, with a nickel-silver crown and with a matching loop attached to the stem of the watch. Uniquely, the case-back is equally crafted of nickel-silver and is marked with a Kriegsmarine eagle, as well as “M4664N”. The face of the watch is white, with black printed arabic numerals from 10 seconds to 100 seconds, marked in 10 second intervals, with 10 ticks in between to count the seconds. It features an additional smaller dial at the top with black printed arabic numerals from 5 minutes to 30 minutes, marked in 5 minute intervals, with 5 ticks in between to count the minutes. The face is otherwise marked “Junghans” and “Stossgeschützt” “Shock Protected” in black lettering. The face is covered by a period original domed acrylic crystal. The watch case measures 49 mm in diameter without the crown, and 63 mm with the crown. It is windable, and fully functional - operational by pressing the crown once to start the watch, pressing it again to stop the watch, and pressing it once more to reset the watch. In overall near extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The watch currently winds as it should, and runs undisrupted, however, it is not tested for accuracy. In addition, as the service history of this antique timepiece is unknown, it is recommended that the watch is serviced prior to being used.
