Afghanistan, Kingdom. An Order of the Star, II Class Grand Officer, with Document of Issue Attributed to Harold Arthur Sanderson, General Manager of the transatlantic shipping company White Star Line of England

(Nishan-i-Astour). Instituted 1901. 1926-1929 issue. Type III. A multiple ray eight-pointed star in silver, obverse centre in Gold exhibiting a superposed period coat of arms of Afghanistan, encircled by an Arabic inscription with Coran citation and the class indication, reverse with an unusual integral bracket with dual prong pin, measuring 83.59 mm (w) x 82.69 mm (h), with engraved silver and gold weight in Arab characters on the reverse, toned silver, very fine. Accompanied by the official document of issue (EG2003b), with red seal of the Buckingham Palace, dated 14th June 1928, awarding the Order of the Star, II Class, to magnate Harold Arthur Sanderson, period general manager of the transatlantic shipping company White Star Line of England, informing of the bestowal and the Restricted Permission to wear the insignia. Together with the receipt letter dated 13th July 1928 signing by Harold A. Sanderson.

Footnote: The Order of the Star (Nishan-i-Astour) was established by Amir Abdu'r Rahman around 1901. The Order originally awarded in a single class in recognition of faithful service provided to the nation. The Order was later modified and expanded into 4 Classes by King Muhammad Zahir Shah. The Order was suspended in 1973.
