Afghanistan, Kingdom. An Order of the Star, III Class, Godet of Berlin Manufacture, c.1930

(Nishan-i-Astour). Instituted in 1920. Type III (1926-1930). Circular centrepiece in coppered bronze, mounted to an eight-pointed star base in silver, each star point with seven emanating rays, rare Godet of Berlin manufacture, measuring 80.7 mm (w) x 85.5 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, loop suspension, very light contact, replacement narrow neck ribbon, near extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, exterior with a smooth maroon dimpled finish, maker stamped "Godet Berlin" on the bottom, inside lid in white cloth and bearing the coat-of-arms of Afghanistan, base lined in white felt, with a raised platform incorporating a circular recessed medal bed, measuring 115 mm (w) x 152 mm (h) x 36 mm (d), extensive scuffing and soiling evident on the exterior, with the pin missing in one of the two hinges, case fair.
