Description
(Militär-Maria-Theresien-Orden). Instituted in 1757, discontinued in 1919. Three-piece construction, in silver gilt with red, white and green enamels, unmarked but done in the Rothe of Vienna style, measuring 44 mm (w) x 47.8 mm (h) inclusive of its integral suspension, intact enamels, on its original full-length neck ribbon with ties sewn in place at the ends, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Military Order of Maria Theresa was instituted on June 18, 1757 and discontinued in 1919. It was awarded to officers for courage in the face of the enemy, or commanders whose actions determine success in battle, in three grades: I Class Grand Cross, II Class Commander and III Class Knight.
