Vienna Volunteer Rescue Society Merit Badge (multi-piece hollow construction, obverse in bronze gilt with black enamels, gilt metal backer, illustrating the bust of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (1837-1898) within a beaded circular frame, centered on a six-pointed star, backed by fire flames on the horizon and water waves below, surrounded by the inscription "WIENERFREIWILLIGE RETTUNGS CESELLSCHAFT" (Vienna Volunteer Rescue Society) and "IX. DEC. 1881" (December 9, 1881, the founding date of the organization), measuring 46.5 mm in diameter, the disk-shaped backer with a button hole attachment, intact enamels, greening evident in the recessed areas).
2. First War KuK Army Cavalry Sharpshooter Badge, Type I (in bronze gilt, number stamped "42" on the reverse, measuring 42.8 mm in diameter, missing its attachment, gilt wear). Near extremely fine and fine, respectively.
Footnote: The Vienna Voluntary Rescue Society was the first rescue organization in Vienna. It was founded in 1881 on a private initiative and operated until 1938. As a result, their tasks were taken over by the City of Vienna.
