Grand Cross Badge: multi-piece construction, in silver gilt with navy blue, white, green and red enamels, measuring 75.2 mm (w) x 105 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath suspension; Breast Star: multi-piece construction, in silver gilt with ultramarine blue, navy blue and white enamels, marked "PRATA" (silver) over "1000" and marked "S" on the reverse, maker marked "H. Stern" on the reverse cartouche, measuring 76 mm (w) x 72 mm (h), vertical pinback, scattered gilt wear evident on the reverse; and Miniature: in silver gilt with ultramarine blue, navy blue, white and green enamels, measuring 15.5 mm (w) x 23 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath suspension, rosette affixed to its original ribbon. Intact enamels, near extremely fine. In their hardshelled case of issue, green dimpled exterior, inside lid in simulated white satin, maker marked "H. Stern" and exhibiting the impressions of the Badge and Breast Star, base incorporating a platform in navy blue felt and slotted for the Breast Star, measuring 177 mm (w) x 315 mm (h) x 61 mm (d), light scuffing on the lid, case better than very fine.
Footnote: The National Order of the Southern Cross was instituted on January 13, 1932 and is awarded to foreigners for diplomatic, military or other services to Brazil, in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight, the Collar being added in 1939.
