(Kong Christian den Tiendes frihedsmedaille). Instituted in 1946. In silver, obverse illustrating the right-facing bust of King Christian X, inscribed "CHISTIANUS X" at the left and "REX DANIÆ" at the right (Christian X King of the Danes), engraver marked "H. SALOMON.", reverse inscribed "PRO DANIA 1940-45" (For Denmark 1940-45) within an open-ended wreath of oak leaves, the medal surmounted by the royal crown, measuring 31 mm (w) x 44.3 mm (h), very light contact, original ribbon with safety pin attachment, near extremely fine. In its original cardboard box of issue, the royal Danish crown in gold-coloured ink on the lid, the underside of the lid maker marked "A. MICHELSEN KØBENHAVN", the base with a medal bed in red felt and housing a raised platform that is recessed for the medal, scuffing evident on the exterior, light wear and soiling present on the felt, box near very fine. Accompanied by four printed items: (i) Royal Award Document for the King Christian X's Liberty Medal, in Danish, named to Civil Engineer Viggo Brinch, dated May 20, 1946, signed in black ink, measuring 235 mm (w) x 360 mm (h), three drill holes on the left side for binder placement, along with two horizontal fold marks, exhibiting crinkling and light soiling; (ii) Letter from the Royal Danish Embassy in Tehran, Persia (now Iran), typewritten in Danish, dated January 9, 1946, signed in black ink by the Attaché, Chargé des Affaires, in regards to Viggo Brinch, measuring 214 mm (w) x 278 mm (h), contact marks and edge wear; (iii) Six pages of Notes, typewritten in Danish, documenting his work in Persia from the Danish Freedom Council in London, England (a clandestine body set up in September 1943, in response to growing political turmoil surrounding the occupation of Denmark by German forces during the Second World War), dual stapled together, measuring 218 mm (w) x 285 mm (h); and (iv) Colourized Photograph of Viggo Brinch with Key Assignment Positions listed below the photo, measuring 210 mm (w) x 296 mm (h).
Footnote: King Christian X's Liberty Medal was established on May 5, 1946, as a commemorative decoration awarded by King Christian X for special contributions to the struggle for a free Denmark during the Second World War. It was awarded to foreigners and Danes living abroad, with approximately 300 medals awarded.
