Description
(Cholmschild). Constructed of silver-plated magnetic iron, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching an Iron Cross defaced by a mobile swastika, situated above an inscription of “CHOLM 1942”, affixed with all three reverse attachment prongs to a magnetic metal backplate with a field-grey wool liner and partially-intact paper backer, the former indicating Heer issue, unmarked, the shield measuring 40.23 mm (w) x 65.74 mm (h), demonstrating oxidation throughout the base metal and some deterioration of the mount(including post-war handwriting applied to the paper backer), a rare “Long M” variant in very fine condition.
