Germany, Heer. A Flak/Artillery Enlisted Ranks/Non-Commissioned Officer M35 Overseas Field Cap

(Heer Schiffchen M38 für Mannschaften/Unteroffiziere der Flak/Artillerie). A field-worn Heer Flak/Artillery Enlisted ranks/Non-Commissioned Officer M43 overseas cap, constructed of a field-grey wool twill. It is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls which slope downward toward the front. The crown is flanked on each side by a ventilation hole which is reinforced with a zink grommet. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a field-grey rayon backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The eagle insignia measures 66 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). Directly below the eagle, the cap is affixed with a tri-colour embroidered cockade presented on a field-grey rayon backer, measuring 34 mm (w) x 34 mm (h). The cockade is surrounded by a red soutache which is securely looped in place through the lower seam. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece olive-drab cotton liner. Fully unmarked, the cap measures approximately 28.5 cm (w) x 10.5 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. The exterior base material demonstrates fatigue consistent with field use and cleaning, with undisturbed material beneath the side walls and folds of the crown providing a striking contrast, while the peak insignia has been obscured by material fatigue. A superb example demonstrating hallmarks of wartime experience, this cap remains in a better than very fine condition.
