Description
Description
(Heer Einheitsfeldmütze M41 in Tarnausführung). A very well-preserved Heer M41-style camouflage field cap, constructed of a weather-hardened cotton drill cloth. The exterior material is dyed in a classic splinter pattern camouflage, consisting of an olive-drab base topped by irregular brown geometric shapes, all overlaid by narrow green slashes. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped toward the front, which provide optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels roll up and are secured in position with two pebbled magnetic metal buttons which emanate from the right panel and meet an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a field-grey rayon trapezoid base bearing a machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade, topped by a silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 58 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). Stitched onto the left side of the panels is a magnetic metal Jäger insignia, measuring 35 mm (w) x 54 mm (l), and consisting of three overlapping oak leaves. Completing the exterior features is a protruding visor with a rigid card stock core fully lined in identical drill cloth. An internal reinforcement surrounds the seam to maintain the cap’s fit and structural integrity during wear, while the interior is finished in an identical splinter pattern mottle. The reverse of the material displays a multi-coloured herringbone twill (HBT) underlay. Fully unmarked, the cap measures approximately 20 cm (w) x 23.5 cm (l) x 12 cm (h). Demonstrating only minor and age-appropriate soiling and material fatigue consistent with light wartime usage, this superb field-made example remains in an extremely fine condition.
