(Hanseatenkreuz). A Hanseatic Cross constructed of silver-plated copper and red enamels, the obverse depicts the Hamburg Coat of Arms in a central medallion, the reverse bears the inscription “Für Verdienst im Kriege 1914” (“For Merit in the 1914 War”), on loop for suspension from a ribbon with two red stripes on a white background, measures 40 mm (w) x 40 mm (h), and in near extremely fine condition, in addition to a letter that accompanied the award document, addressed to Hermann Polster, dated 2 January 1922, measures 165 mm (w) x 209 mm (h), and in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Letter states that they discontinued the cross and that it was not included with the award document. Therefore, the included cross may not belong to Polster.
